Armed Bandit Robs Fort Worth Taco Truck

Police in Fort Worth are searching for a man suspected of robbing a taco truck at gunpoint in mid-September.

According to a police statement, the incident happened on Saturday, Sept. 19. The Monterrey Tacos and More truck was parked next to a Shell gas station on the 6800 block of Camp Bowie Boulevard when the robbery happened, at about 3:45 p.m.

A man was seen walking around the gas station and into a neighboring business. He then emerged wearing a bandanna and holding handgun, the statement said.

The gunman ran away after robbing employees inside the food truck, police said.

"He said, 'Mula,' which means 'money' in Spanish," said employee Deisy Austin. "After we hid down, he started saying, 'Give me the money, give me the money.'"

Austin said that was the first time they have ever been robbed.

"I didn't know what to expect," said Austin. "My mom thought he was going to jump in [the window], but I'm glad he didn't."

No one was hurt and Austin said the suspect ran away without getting any money. But police need the public's help finding the suspect who was willing to rob a hard-working family in broad daylight and put their lives in danger.

"We didn't care about the money," said Austin. "I'm glad that nobody got hurt."

The gunman was described by police as black, in his late teens to early 20s and standing 5 feet 11 inches tall with a medium build. He was wearing a baseball cap with 'COMPTON' written across the front, a light colored Polo shirt, camouflage pants and dark athletic shoes.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call detectives at 817-392-4469.
