Arlington Principal Accused of Solicitation of Minor

An Arlington elementary school principal resigned Wednesday after he was arrested in Florida on charges of soliciting sex online with a minor.

Boynton Beach Police said Stephen Paulsen, 54, met with an undercover officer that he thought was a 16-year-old boy.

Paulsen was in Florida with his wife visiting his parents, who live in Boynton Beach.

He was the principal of Morton Elementary for the past two years and served as Blanton Elementary's principal for six years before that.

Paulsen appeared in a Palm Beach County courtroom on Wednesday. The public defender there declined to represent him because Paulsen does not meet income requirements.

Another court appearance is scheduled Friday.

Records show no bond amount has been set for his case.

The Arlington Independent School District issued this statement:

Today, the Arlington Independent School District is reporting the arrest of Stephen Paulsen to the State Board for Educator Certification. The AISD also accepted Paulsen's resignation, effective immediately. We are cooperating fully with law enforcement officials. As this matter involves an active police investigation, the AISD will not make any further comment.

An official with the Arlington Police Department said that agency is also now involved in the investigation.
