No Verifiable Threats Made Against School, Questioning 2 Teens: Arlington Police

Arlington police have determined there was no verifiable threat to students or faculty based on tweets against James Bowie High School Tuesday.

Officers said they have identified the phone used to post the tweets and are currently interviewing two teens.

Arlington ISD said it was made aware Tuesday morning that a threatening message had been posted to Twitter mentioning a James Bowie High School.

They reported it to police and requested extra security as a precaution.

Additional officers were sent to both Bowie High School and nearby Sam Houston High School. District officials say neither school has been placed on lockdown and students and staff are proceeding with normal school days.

“We don’t need that at our school, so hopefully they find that person and he gets in trouble,” said Kordell Moore, a senior at Bowie High School.

Students tell NBC 5 the day has been a bit unsettling, but they’re happy to see the extra police presence at their school.

“I feel a lot more protected,” said Shannen Coit, a senior at Bowie High School.

They add they’re disappointed these steps had to be taken in the first place.

“Hopefully this person grows up and finds something better to do than play games like that,” said Moore. “Because that’s not something to play around with.”

NBC 5's Holley Ford contributed to this report.
