Arlington Officers Shoot at Driver During Chase

Arlington police are investigating a shooting after an officer fired at a driver during a police chase in Dallas early Monday morning.

At about midnight, an Arlington officer attempted a traffic stop along eastbound Interstate 20 near state Highway 360.  The driver refused to stop and the officer gave chase through Grand Prairie and into Dallas.

In Dallas, the driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a fire hydrant on the 7800 block of Marvin D. Love Freeway, officials said.  The driver then bailed out of the car and stole a gold-colored Ford Focus from a woman who was attempting to enter The Corners Apartments.

The Arlington officer approached the vehicle on foot and, during the confrontation with the driver,  fired his weapon into the car, Arlington police said.

The man was not hit by the officer's bullets and he drove northbound on a service road with the officer once again in pursuit.

The driver then attempted a U-turn underneath Marvin D. Love Freeway at Camp Wisdom Road, but lost control, struck the curb, blew a tire and damaged the car so severely that it was no longer driveable, officials said.

Police arrested the driver, who has been identified as Andonal L. Harvey, without further incident.

Arlington police said Harvey now faces charges in both Arlington and Dallas.

The name of the officer involved in the shooting has not been identified.  Arlington police said anytime an officer discharges a weapon, an administrative review of the use of force is conducted.
