An Arlington man was shot multiple times by a Terrell police officer Saturday morning as officers tried to keep him from entering the home of his estranged wife, police say.
The Terrell Police Department said they were on the lookout for the man — later identified as 28-year-old Mac Arthur Degraffinried — after being alerted he was trying to find her and had been making threats.
At about 7:25 a.m., officers spotted Degraffinried and followed him to her home on the 300 block of Wall Street. He was tried to enter the woman's residence armed with a pistol and was shot by a veteran officer, police said.
Degraffinried was transported under armed guard to a nearby hospital for treatment. He is currently under police guard and charged with burglary, evading arrest and unauthorized weapons possession.
No other injuries were reported and the Terrell officer is on routine administrative leave following the shooting.
The Internal Affairs Unit is investigating the officer involved-shooting and the attorney general's office will be notified of the shooting injury to the man on Monday, per state law. The Texas Rangers are also assisting in the shooting investigation.
Mansfield police said Degraffinried is also wanted on two felony warrants for sexual assault and aggravated assault.
