Arlington Man Dies After Placed in Jail Isolation: Police

An Arlington man has died days after he was placed in an isolation cell at the Arlington City Jail, police said.

Authorities said 42-year-old Jonathan Ryan Paul was pronounced dead at about 3:30 p.m. Friday.

Police said they were called to Paul's apartment Monday afternoon after they received information that he was screaming and throwing items out of an upstairs window. They determined Paul had outstanding misdemeanor warrants, and he was arrested.

While at the Arlington City Jail on Tuesday, Paul was restrained and placed in isolation after he became agitated and non-compliant, officials said. Later, officers saw he was non-responsive, so he was transported to Arlington Memorial Hospital, where he died Friday.

The medical examiner will determine the manner and cause of his death, and police said investigations continue into Paul's alleged criminal activity as well as how he was handled.

Video recordings from the jail detention area are expected to be released after the investigation is completed.
