One Fort Worth neighborhood isn't waiting for more weather warnings to prepare for the worst. Sand bags are already out in parts of Arlington Heights, where flash flooding tends to develop.
"It's not fun, but, you know, you watch the weather and see what's going to develop. It's better to be safe than sorry," said resident Kathleen Fleming.
Residents have placed sandbags against front doors and around their properties along Western Avenue in anticipation of flash flooding. They say the city provided sand bags after a major flooding event on April 13.
"All of this was covered and you couldn't see anything. The whole front yard was covered in water," said Fleming.
The engineering solution, including a water retention pond along Bryce, is weeks into construction. It will alleviate flooding problems but will take a year-and-a-half to finish.
Crews worked until 9:30 p.m. Friday in order to complete one portion of the project before predicted rains arrived.
Residents will rely on their own safety measures until work is complete.

"The sooner it can get done, the better. But we're grateful that something is finally getting done," said Fleming.
