Emergency crews were called before 9 p.m. to the QuikTrip in the 900 block of East Division Street.

A police department spokesperson said the incident began when officers arrested Antonio Mireles on misdemeanor warrants and, while completing an inventory of Mireles' car, they discovered the suspicious device in the trunk.

Customers and employees at the QuikTrip were evacuated while Arlington Fire Department bomb squad members investigated. Meanwhile, police closed traffic along Division Street and South Collins Street for a two-block radius around the QuikTrip.

Just after 10 p.m. members of the bomb squad detonated the device.

Police said Thursday morning that the device was a homemade explosive. They later clarified that it was a large firecracker.
