Arlington Elementary School to Remain Closed Wednesday

Families of students at Moore Elementary in Arlington had to make a few changes to their morning routine Tuesday.

“[My kids] were a little nervous this morning,” said Erica Clopton, whose kids go to Moore Elementary. “But we told them they’d see all the same faces. It’s just a different school.”

Rather than dropping their kids off at the school, which was closed for the second straight day Tuesday, parents were asked to bring them around the corner to Boles Junior High, where they met their teachers and caught a bus to nearby Corey Elementary.

“They’ve missed enough school,” said Clopton. “I was glad [the district] came up with something.”

“We want to keep things as normal as possible for our students,” said Leslie Johnston, spokesperson for Arlington ISD.

While the students were away learning, crews worked to replace a transformer at the school which had blown over the weekend and get power restored to the building.

“There was some smoke inside the building, but we were able to get that cleared,” said Johnston. “And there was no damage to the inside of the building.”

Johnston says once the repairs are complete, district staff will have to test various systems in the school before it can reopen.

“We need to make sure the heating system, the electrical system and everything is back up and running as it should be,” said Johnston.

Students and parents will have to wait at least one more day before they can get back into the normal swing of things. The district has decided to keep Moore Elementary closed on Wednesday to make sure everything is working properly.

They say parents should once again drop off their kids at Boles Junior High between 7:40 a.m. and 8:20 a.m Wednesday. They’ll then be bussed to Corey Elementary.
