Another Purse Theft Caught on Camera in Plano

New surveillance video captured a thief stealing from a woman's purse in the middle of a crowded restaurant.

The theft happened at Sambuca 360 at the Shops at Legacy a week ago Saturday.

In the video, you can see a woman dancing right behind the man Plano police want to identify. The video shows the man leaning over in his chair. Police say he's grabbing items out of a purse on the floor, a purse he just slid towards him with his foot.

Police say he stuffs the items, including a wallet, into his pocket and walks off.

It’s the latest in a string of purse thefts at restaurants in Plano this year.

"I think it's kind of crazy because I actually live and work in Plano...that someone would actually stoop this low,” Plano resident Mary Harris said.

In July, cameras caught a man police say stole from a purse hanging on a chair behind him.

Surveillance video at a bank captured a woman police say used credit cards taken from purses that were also draped across the backs of chairs.

"If somebody is going to look for somebody's wallet to steal, they're going to go to a nicer area because they're going to get more bang for their buck so to speak,” Wylie resident Alison Moore said.

Plano police do not believe the theft at Sambuca 360 is related.

Kristyn Rodriquez is a frequent customer, but says she always carries a small purse that never leaves her wrist.

"I've got my stuff with me all the time because I can dance with this on my wrist,” she said.

Managers at Sambuca 360 released the following statement to NBC 5:

“This is the first time a wallet has been stolen at our establishment. We go above and beyond with staff at Sambuca 360 to maintain security and we know that we have fewer issues because of our multiple security cameras and personnel on-site. We are glad we could provide security camera footage to the Plano police and hope that the perpetrator is caught.”
