American Seeks to Fly Between Dallas and Beijing

American Airlines wants to expand service to Asia with nonstop flights between Dallas and Beijing starting next summer.

The airline said Thursday that it asked the U.S. Department of Transportation for rights to the route.

If approved, the new flights would give American nonstop service to five Asian cities from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. It already flies from its DFW hub to Hong Kong; Shanghai; Tokyo; and Seoul, South Korea.

American lags United and Delta in Asia and also faces growing competition from Asian carriers that fly directly to the U.S.

Shares of American Airlines Group Inc. fell $1, or 2.8 percent, to $35.12 in afternoon trading.
