Affidavits: 4 Teens Planned to Kill N. Texas Mom

Suspects include victim's children

Four teenagers, including two siblings, planned for days to kill the siblings' mother before stabbing her to death and attempting to flee to Canada, according to search warrant affidavits released Tuesday.

Roanoke police found Susan Bailey dead in an upstairs hallway of her home on Sept. 28. Her mother had called police saying she had been unable to reach her.

The same day, Bailey's 18-year-old daughter, Jennifer, and 14-year-old son were found in Yankton, S.D., along with Jennifer's 16-year-old boyfriend. They were arrested for violating the town's curfew and later held after authorities discovered that Susan Bailey was dead.

A Fort Worth Star-Telegram story reported that authorities have seized notebooks, binders, handwritten papers, computers and discs that police described as "pertaining to the preparation of murder."

The affidavits also link a 15-year-old Fort Worth girl to the plan. On Sept. 23, she was detained by Fort Worth police after her mother reported waking up to find the girl standing over her wielding a knife and demanding her car keys. The girl told police she wanted to steal the car to take friends to Canada.

A search of the 16-year-old boyfriend's home yielded handwritten notes and papers, computers, discs and a copy of "The Demonic Bible," police said.

Police have been called to the Bailey's home before. They went there Sept. 23 looking for the 16-year-old boyfriend, who was reported as a runaway. Susan Bailey and her daughter argued over the runaway teen, police said.

Hours later, police returned at Susan Bailey's request because she reported finding ammunition, police said. Police also found a butcher knife hidden between the cushions on a couch and a knife under Jennifer Bailey's bed, according to the affidavits.

Jennifer Bailey remained in the Denton County Jail without bail Tuesday, while the boys are at a Denton County juvenile facility, all on capital murder charges. Prosecutors said they are seeking to try the 16-year-old as an adult.
