Dozens of officers, including SWAT units, responded to a report of an active shooter at the Dallas Wyndham Suites Park Central in the 7800 block of Alpha Road at about 2 p.m.

Deputy Chief Rick Watson a man apparently entered a hotel room and fired a weapon, striking the victim in the leg. A witness who was in the hotel room at the time of the shooting was able to escape unharmed.

The shooter — later identified as 37-year-old Jeremy Chaney — and the victim remained the room, so SWAT officers handled the situation as a hostage rescue, believing the victim needed immediate assistance, Watson said.

Part of the hotel was evacuated, and other guests were ordered to stay locked in their rooms.

Texas Sky Ranger was over the scene of a Dallas hotel after reports of gunshots fired. Video shows an ambulance transporting a man and Dallas police taking another man away in handcuffs.

Watson said SWAT officers were eventually able to gain entry into the room, and Chaney surrendered without any resistance.

No officers were injured and none of them fired their weapons, Watson said.

Just after 4 p.m. the victim was loaded into a Dallas Fire-Rescue ambulance. Chaney was seen in handcuffs as an officer placed him into a police cruiser.

The shooting victim is expected to survive, police said.
