Accident Shut Down Dallas North Tollway for Hours

All lanes are now open along the Dallas North Tollway after having been shut down due to a fatal accident on Friday afternoon.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said the accident involved a triple axle truck with a drilling rig mounted on its bed.

While the driver of that vehicle was traveling south in the center lane of the DNT there was a tire blowout forcing the driver to pull over to the left lane.

According to Sergeant Lonney Haschel with DPS, the drilling rig on the back of the truck shifted and was hanging over the northbound lanes of the DNT.

A driver traveling in the northbound lanes struck the drilling arm and died at the scene. The driver of the drilling rig was not injured.

The Texas Department of Public Safety identified the driver as 70-year-old Joseph Martin Higginbotham of Dallas.

According to the North Texas Tollway Authority, the accident affected traffic on both sides of the DNT at Frankford Road.
