About 200 Dogs, Cats Seized From Texas Shelter

About 200 dogs and cats have been seized from a North Texas animal shelter amid allegations of neglect.

A judge in Greenville will consider whether the animals should be returned to the no-kill Frank Barchard Memorial Shelter in Wolfe City.

Shelter president Jody McIntier denies the allegations and seeks to have the animals returned.

Officials with the Texas SPCA and Hunt County on Wednesday removed the animals, saying some were sick, lacked clean water and were in poor housing. The removal came following a July 16 visit by SPCA inspectors.

The dogs and cats have been transported to a shelter in McKinney for evaluation, pending the July 31 custody hearing.

Wolfe City is 60 miles northeast of Dallas.
