Abbott Welcomes Nugent, but Ducks Divisive Remarks

Republican gubernatorial candidate Greg Abbott is campaigning with Ted Nugent but says he's not aware of divisive remarks on immigration made by the salty-tongued musician.

Nugent has suggested that immigrants who are not in the country legally should be treated like "indentured servants" until they earn their citizenship. Following a rally with Nugent on Tuesday in Denton, Abbott said he couldn't respond to those comments because he hadn't heard them.

The Texas attorney general said "I can't read everything" when asked about those who join him on the campaign trail.

Democratic opponent Wendy Davis called Abbott's embrace of Nugent "repulsive" after casting her ballot on the first day of early voting Tuesday. Abbott said Nugent worries Davis because he draws attention to her stance on gun rights.
