AA LAX to DFW Flight Makes Unscheduled Landing in Abilene

About 100 passengers spent the night at a West Texas airport after a jet bound from Los Angeles to Dallas-Fort Worth had possible engine trouble and landed in Abilene.

Abilene Regional Airport aviation director Don Green said Wednesday that nobody was hurt as the MD-80, with 112 passengers, made a safe landing around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Green says some passengers from Flight 2468 were transported to hotels, while most spent the night in the terminal.

American spokeswoman Andrea Huguely told The Associated Press that mechanics will check for a possible issue with an engine. She did not elaborate. Huguely says another jet was being dispatched to pick up the passengers and continue their journey to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration did not immediately comment.
