AA Expands Aadvantage Options

The buzz at Fort Worth-based American Airlines is not what is happening in the air, but online. American's Aadvantage members can now fly for fewer miles than ever before.

"We are the first carrier to offer completely one-way and combinable awards," said Rob Friedman, with American Airlines.

Travelers can now book a one-way economy ticket from DFW International Airport to New York's La Guardia for as little as 12,500 miles.  In the past that trip would have cost 25,000 miles.

American Airlines is also letting its 62 million Aadvantage members combine different types of one-way awards on single tickets.

Travelers can now tailor their seat assignments to meet their needs.  For instance, travelers could fly to one destination in first or business class and then return home on coach.

Friedman said in a down economy, loyalty is crucial to any business and that they think they can improve the value of the program to members -- in turn, creating greater loyalty and more passengers on AA's airplanes.
