9th Annual Prosecution Summit Kicks Off in Dallas

The 9th Annual National Prosecution Summit kicked off in downtown Dallas Monday.

The summit has gathered nearly 200 prosecutors from 10 different countries to help them find more effective and efficient ways to do their jobs.

Each year they hold the summit in a different major U.S. city. This is the first time the summit has ever been held in Dallas.

The keynote speaker for Monday was U.S. Department of Justice Chief of Staff and Senior Counsel Beth McGarry.

Organizers of the summit said they always try to focus on specific things.

"We look at four principles of high performing offices are embracing," said Association of Prosecuting Attorney's Vice President Steven Jansen, "That is community prosecution theories, so making the community our partners in public safety, engaging with law enforcement, faith based community, business leaders. We look to harness science and technology inside and outside the courtroom, and look at what research and evaluation are improving programs and practices that really work in our criminal justice system."

Other notable speakers at this year's summit include district attorneys from Brooklyn and Philadelphia.

The summit is being held at the Adolphus Hotel and will go until Wednesday.
