About 100 people have protested plans to kill dozens of ducks and geese that overpopulated a West Texas park.
Demonstrators turned out Wednesday night near Memorial Gardens Park in Odessa. Some held signs and chanted "Save Our Ducks."
The Odessa Parks and Recreation Department recently asked the Texas Wildlife Services to help euthanize the 60 ducks and 30 geese. Parks director Steve Patton cited public health and safety concerns amid complaints about aggressive birds.
Pollution issues were also raised. Odessa has spent about $6,000 this year to clear park sidewalks of messes blamed on the birds, compared to $1,000 budgeted for all of 2015.
Officials didn't immediately say when or how the ducks and geese would be euthanized. The park closed Tuesday and is scheduled to reopen July 14.
