9-Foot Alligator Roaming Houston Suburb Killed

Texas game wardens have shot and killed a 200-pound, 9-foot-long alligator found roaming backyards in a suburban Houston neighborhood.

KTRK-TV reports the alligator was killed Friday after several complaints from residents that they had spotted the enormous reptile.

Texas Parks and Wildlife officer Timothy Holland says the alligator was found next to a home not far from a retention pond that feeds into a bayou.

Resident Deborah Bailey says the alligator had casually strolled into her backyard and "sat here for a while."

The alligator continued moving after it was placed in the back of a game warden's truck. The wardens shot it three times for fear it would return to the neighborhood and attack.

Holland says alligators are often seen in the area during the spring.
