$80M in Grants Headed to DART for Rail Expansion

Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, as senior senator and ranking member on the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, announced that $78.4 million in federal grants will be awarded to Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART).

Authorities will use the funds to expand the Northwest and Southeast Light Rail Transit corridors of the Green Line.

"The grant will speed up delivery for DART's Green Line, expanding the availability of light rail transit for residents and commuters from Carrollton to Pleasant Grove," Hutchison said.

The money is coming from the Stimulus Bill, and grants were also awarded to Arizona, California, Colorado, New York, Oregon, Utah, Virginia and Washington.
