The city of Krum was hit hard by floodwaters Wednesday morning after overnight storms rolled through North Texas.
Emergency crews had to evacuate eight families on Odneal Road due to high water. All of them were able to escape safely before floodwaters covered the bridge.
Krum Fire Department assistant chief Matt Kilgore said more than a dozen roads are still closed as of 11 a.m. He said residents should avoid these areas.
"The barricades are up for a reason," he said.
Several roads started flooding before it started raining in Krum. Kilgore said they knew the families on Odneal Road would be in danger, so they started knocking on doors before the water got too high.
"Slidell area flows into Hickory Creek. They checked and it was coming up," Kilgore said. "We figured it four or five inches every five minutes. That is how fast it was coming up."
Another problem area was on Plainview Road, where a man delivering newspapers became trapped in high water. He was able to leave his vehicle to get to safety.

Flooding was also a problem at the Jackson Cemetery in Krum. Several graves there were under water.
There were no reports of injuries in Krum from Wednesday's storms.
