Authorities said a 77-year-old Lewisville man was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday for sexually abusing a family member.
Judge Brody Shanklin sentenced James Cottle to life without parole, according to the Denton County District Attorney's Office.
After the victim and several witnesses testified, Cottle changed his plea to guilty, per the Denton Record-Chronice. The case went to the judge for sentencing later that afternoon.
Court records indicated that Cottle began sexually abusing the girl in 2009, when she was 6 years old.
Cottle sexually abused the girl until she reported the abuse to authorities at the age of 13.
