The Navarro County Sheriff confirmed that a 5-year-old boy from Rice was accidentally shot in the face with a .22 caliber rifle on Saturday evening.
The boy's condition is not being made public.
The sheriff's office said three children, all siblings, where present when the rifle went off at a home in Rice. The community is 44 miles south of Dallas.
The sheriff did not say where the children's parents were at the time of the shooting.
Emergency crews transported the boy to a Dallas area hospital.
The sheriff department said it is too early to know if charges will be filed in this case.
