By the time emergency crews pulled up to Samantha Oliver’s home on Odneal Road Thursday, flash flood waters had taken over most of the property, including a car, and were rushing into her house and her mother’s next door.
"My mother, my roommate, my sister and niece are out there,” said Oliver. "There's over a foot of water in my mom's house."
Denton County Emergency Services lead the team of rescuers to pull all five to safety via small boats brought in to deal with the rain situation.
"They brought out a swift water rescue team and a boat and were able to access the two houses,” said Emergency Management Coordinator Jody Gonzalez. "An extra safety factor, an abundance of caution."
Gonzalez said the county, working with local jurisdictions across Denton County, pulled together the task force Thursday after washouts in Sanger earlier in the day.

They had to participate in at least two water rescues near Krum and shut down more than 30 roads for washouts.
Gonzalez said everyone in the house was okay. The main goal behind the task force was to get Oliver’s mother out who is dealing with disabilities.
When the family was safely reunited, Oliver said her mother and most of the others were ready to wait it out on the property, but she was much happier to have everyone on dry land.
"I'd rather have her mad than not have her,” she said.
