33 People Graduate from Dallas LIFE Program

More than 30 people earned a second chance at life when they graduated from the Dallas LIFE program Monday morning.

The road was long for many of Monday's graduates, as seen by the emotion in their faces. Many faced homelessness, debt, days without food and isolation from their families.

"'A dead end is a pretty good place to turn around," said the Rev. Bob Sweeney, Dallas LIFE executive director.

The Dallas LIFE Foundation provides warm beds and hot meals, but also an intense 10-month program to help people get back on their feet. Graduates must pass financial, housing and religious classes before they can walk across the stage.

After 10 months, the Dallas LIFE staff said this graduation class should have the skills to stay on their feet.

"Even when we want to give up, we have to keep going because we don't want to end up back here again," graduate Janice Hensley said. "And we don't want our kids to go through the same thing that they went through."

Man members of this graduating class have jobs lined up too. In fact, some didn't even make it to the ceremony because of work.
