3 Things I Learned at the Blue-White Scrimmage

The Cowboys had their Blue-White scrimmage Sunday afternoon in Oxnard.  This is a good prep for Thursday's preseason opener in San Diego.

1.  Dez Bryant is just getting better
No. 88 ripped off a huge 75 yard touchdown run and converted on 4th down with a nice catch in the end zone over Orlando Scandrick for a touchdown as well.

He is a beast on the slant move and while he told the media he didn't want to talk about his contract he is proving he may be a better player than last year when he caught 93 passes for 1,233 yards on his way to his Pro Bowl.

Better use a high pick on him in your fantasy football draft.

2.  Orlando Scandrick needs to start
The 7th year corner is playing with the same chip on his shoulder he brought with him from Boise State.

This camp he is battling Bryant and my gosh he is bringing his best effort. I like what I see.  Why not reward him with a starting spot over Mo Claiborne?  After the practice Bryant had high praise for Scandrick saying, "He's fighting and I love every bit of that. He's a dog and a lot of the other corners out there are feeding off him."

Scandrick picked off Tony Romo on a cover two coverage on a ball the quarterback should not have thrown.  Scandrick tipped it and then made the catch.

3.  Devin Street is one to watch vs. San Diego
The rookie from Pitt made two catches Sunday for touchdowns.  Head coach Jason Garrett made this comment after the scrimmage about the tall fifth round draft pick, "He made some big plays."  He also called Street "quarterback friendly".

Now I want to see if he can do this against the Chargers this Thursday night.  So many times I've seen young players show you these signs and good moments at camp only to vanish when the bullets start to flying in preseason games.

Former Oklahoma Sooners and Dallas Cowboys head coach Barry Switzer used to have this saying, "Can he do it when the band is playing?"  I love it.  Can Street shows us these same good plays with the stands full against guys on another team?  If he can, this will be a big help.
