Dallas police said a 23-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were driving a Saturn sedan westbound along Military Parkway when they were struck on the driver's side of the vehicle at about 2:30 a.m. by Eduardo Rodarte-Ortiz, a 27-year-old man driving a Mercedes eastbound in the westbound lanes.

The driver of the Saturn was pinned in the vehicle and had to be extricated by Dallas Fire-Rescue. Once removed he was hospitalized in critical condition with a broken leg and internal bleeding. His passenger, who is four months pregnant, is being evaluated and is in stable condition.

Rodarte-Ortiz, who police said was found to be under the influence of alcohol and is being charged with intoxication assault, was treated at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas for minor injuries before being transferred to the Lew Sterrett Justice Center.

No further information was released.

The intersection of Buckner Boulevard and Military Parkway was ranked No. 8 on the Rasansky Law Firm's list of most dangerous intersections in DFW.
