Man Arrested in Deadly Plano Shooting May Be Connected to Arlington Shooting: PD

Police in Plano and Arlington are investigating shootings Thursday morning

An arrest has been made in a shooting that left one person is dead and three people injured in Plano, and now police are looking at if he's connected another deadly shooting in Arlington.

Police said officers executed an arrest warrant Thursday night in McKinney for 18-year-old Franklin Lee Barnes. Barnes has been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon in connection with a Thursday morning shooting in Plano. He's currently in the Plano City Jail. Police said additional charges were expected.

Arlington police confirmed Friday that Barnes is a suspect in a double homicide that happened an hour after the Plano shooting.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office identified the Arlington victims as 25-year-old Joshua Daniels and 25-year-old Winston Davis. They were found dead inside a car parked at an apartment complex in the 1200 block of East Lamar Boulevard. Police in Arlington say they have more to investigate before they'll be able to charge Barnes in that case.

Meanwhile, detectives in Plano are investigating what lead up to a shooting that killed one person and injured three others at a Plano apartment complex shortly before 9:30 Thursday morning.

Investigators examined evidence at multiple crime scenes at the Cross Creek Apartments on Alma Drive, north of Legacy Drive in west Plano. Detectives worked inside two apartment units on an upper floor on the north end of the complex. They also gathered evidence in the stairwell and parking lot.

A roofer, working across the street, told NBC 5 he heard at least three gunshots. He saw a woman on the stairs and heard her scream. Another man who appeared to be injured drove away in a black pickup with the driver’s side door wide open.

At a second crime scene in front of the leasing center of the complex, police took photos of a pickup that crashed into several parked cars. Police said the shooting did not occur in front of the leasing center.

“This is very unsettling that this happened right here where we’re staying,” said neighbor Wanda McKinney. “At the same time, you just have to make sure you keep your kids protected because it can happen anywhere.”

One person is dead and three people are injured after a shooting in Plano, police said. The suspect fled the scene at 7400 block of Alma Drive, police said.

“It’s scary, you never think it can happen to you then it does,” said another neighbor named Kara Hill. “I want to know what happened, I want to know what would drive someone to do that and I want to know if it’s a tenant here or if it’s just somebody that lives in the area.”

Plano Police were not confirming those details Thursday afternoon, but said investigators believed at least one of the victims was targeted.

Police say the deceased victim’s name would be released once family is notified. The three injured persons are believed to have non-life-threatening injuries.
