Police said Eduardo Gonzalez-Rios was escorted out of the Kalua Discotheque in the 2400 block of West Northwest Highway after a disturbance inside. When a valet brought him his car, he put the vehicle in reverse and backed into a uniformed Dallas police officer working security at the club.

Gonzalez-Rios then put the car into drive and hit a second uniformed off-duty officer โ€” later identified as 20-year veteran Sr. Cpl. Edmundo "Ed" Lujan โ€” critically injuring him and dragging him about 15 feet, police said.

Police said officers opened fire on the vehicle, striking Gonzalez-Rios, who crashed. He was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas in unknown condition. Police said he was later booked into jail on a charge of aggravated assault on a public servant.

Lujan, was also transported to Parkland. National Latino Law Enforcement Organization officials said he is recovering from a dislocated hip, lacerated scalp and broken fibula, ankle and vertebrae. NLLEO is accepting donations for Lujan via a PayPal account.

The first officer struck by the driver was not injured.

Dallas police asked that anyone with information about the incident call their Special Investigations Unit at 214-671-3584.
