The 2007 slaying of a North Richland Hills woman is among 12 cases featured on a new state Web page highlighting cold cases.
Marianne Wilkinson was shot multiple times when she went to answer the doorbell of her North Richland Hills home in December 2007.
"Everything that we know indicates that it was a hit that was just a [case of] mistaken identity; went to the wrong house," said her son, Mike Wilkinson.
The gun was recovered. But police do not who the shooter was, Wilkinson said.
The case is featured on a Web page on the Texas Rangers' website listing the agency's "top 12 cold case investigations."
Mike Wilkinson said he still remembers the last conversation he had with his mother. They discussed Christmas plans for that Friday. Instead, her family buried her that day.
"She was one that, whenever you were with her, you always left in a good mood," Wilkinson said. "I mean, she was just happy."

More than five years later, he hasn't given up hope.
"We are convinced that someone knows what happened," he said. "We have no clue who is responsible."
North Richland Hills police say they do not classify the slaying as a cold case because they continue to follow up on every lead.
Oak Farms is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and grand jury indictment in the case.
