20,000 Students Are No-Shows on Dallas ISD's First Day of School

Nearly 20,000 students did not attend the first day of school in the Dallas Independent School District.

According to a report from the district, approximately 141,857 students were in school on Monday, Aug. 24.

The district projects to reach a total enrollment of more than 161,000 for the 2015-2016 school year.

This year’s total includes approximately 79,339 elementary students and 62,518 secondary students.

The district currently has 149 teacher vacancies, but more than 280 teachers are being reviewed for the positions.
