2-Time Champ Allen Tops Newly Named Class 6A Poll

Two-time defending state champion Allen is the preseason No. 1 for the newly-named Class 6A in The Associated Press Texas high school football poll.

Allen received 15 of 25 first-place votes in the poll released Wednesday.

The largest school in the state with an enrollment of almost 6,000 students, Allen has won the past two Class 5A Division I championships. Class 5A was renamed 6A this year but includes most of the same schools.

No. 2 Katy and third-ranked Cedar Hill split the other 10 first-place votes from a panel of journalists who cover high school football in Texas.

Aledo tops the Class 5A poll after winning 4A titles four of the past five seasons. The other No. 1 teams are Stephenville (4A), Cisco (3A) and Refugio (2A).
