An Arlington teen told police that someone tried to abduct her Wednesday evening. [[330217491,C]]

The girl said she was jogging in the 2500 block of Gilbert Circle when two men in a dark blue SUV approached her at about 6:15 p.m., according to police. She said the driver was armed with a knife and ordered her to get in the SUV.

Police said the girl was able to run away to a nearby apartment. Investigators said they think the driver headed east onto Abram Street after the failed attempt.

The girl described the SUV driver as a Hispanic man, about 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall, and about 140 pounds with short, dark hair. Police said she told them the first three letters the SUV's license plate might have contained "CW8."

In a letter sent home to parents, Sam Houston High School Principal Fernando Benavides urged parents to ask their children to not walk to and from school alone and to resist approaches from strangers.  Benavides also asked that any suspicious behavior be reported to police immediately.

Investigators have canvassed the area and will continue working the case throughout the night to identify the men and the vehicle.

Arlington police asked that anyone with information about this incident contact Det. Caleb Blank at 817-459-5735 or Tarrant County Crime Stoppers at 817-469-TIPS (8477).
