Irving Police Motorcycle Crash Not a Hit-and-Run

Northbound 161 reopens after investigation, closure

The northbound lanes of Texas 161 are open again in Irving after two motorcycle police officers crashed, apparently into each other.

The officers were just south of Texas 183 when they crashed.

Police initially believed the officers were hit by a car that left the scene, but after investigating the incident said no one else was involved in the crash.

"After interviewing multiple witnesses and viewing various video footage, this is no longer considered a hit-and-run accident and we are not looking for anybody that we consider to be a suspect," police said. "However, we are still looking to interview someone who may have witnessed the incident but left prior to giving their statement to responding officers."

The officers suffered only minor injuries, according to Irving Chief of Police Jeff Spivey. Police later said they had been treated and released from the hospital.

Police said Tuesday afternoon the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
