2 DPS Troopers Wounded, Suspect Dead in Odessa Shootout

Two state troopers are hospitalized and a suspect is dead after a shootout outside a West Texas convenience store.

The shooting happened just after 2 p.m. Tuesday at a Phillips 66 gas station and convenience store at U.S. 385 and Texas 191 in northern Odessa.

Trooper Elena Viramontes of the Texas Department of Public Safety tells KOSA-TV of Odessa-Midland that troopers were helping Texas Rangers serve multiple arrest warrants on a man from nearby Ward County when the suspect said he would not "come in peace."

She said the wounded troopers are hospitalized in stable condition and are expected to recover fully.

In a statement, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick says the suspect was killed. No identities have been released.
