Dallas Fire-Rescue officials said they were called to a fire at Iglesia de Cristo Camino de Santidad in the 800 block of North Westmoreland Road at about 6:30 a.m.
Despite the effort of about 75 firefighters, and two other departments who offered aid, flames devoured the building and left only a charred shell behind.
Parishioners looked on with heavy hearts, mourning the loss of a structure that had been in the community for decades.
Pastor Miguel Puga has been leading services at the church for almost three years. He takes solace in the fact that no one was hurt.
"I feel blesses because I’m alive and that’s what’s important," he said.
The latest news from around North Texas.
Miguel Munguia had been coming to the church for more than 20 years and said he was married and baptized in the building.
"It is so sad to see what happened to the church. But we’re going to leave it to God," said Munguia.
The church has been around since the 1970s when it was called The Beverly Hills Baptist Church.
There is no word yet on the cause of the fire.
