2 Killed Trying to Get Dog Off Highway After Crash

Authorities say two people were killed northeast of Lubbock after being hit by a car while they tried to get their dog, which had gotten loose on a highway.

Investigators with the Texas Department of Public Safety say the vehicle the man and the woman had been driving in had gone off the road around 4:30 a.m. Friday near the town of Lorenzo.

The two occupants got out of their car to get their dog, which had gotten loose on the roadway.

Investigators said a motorist driving along the highway hit the two individuals.

The man and the woman, whose names weren't released, were pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was not injured. The dog was later caught and taken off the highway.

The crash remains under investigation.
