2 Injured in Crash of Experimental Plane

A husband and wife were injured in the crash of a small plane in rural Denton County on Sunday night.

Authorities said the experimental, homebuilt plane crashed shortly after it took off from Denton Regional Airport just after 7 p.m.

Witnesses said the plane took off heading south and then lost power as it was gaining altitude. The aircraft then turned to the right, crashed about a mile from the airport and burst into flames.

People in the tower of the Denton airport witnessed the crash and called 911.

Denton police and fire crews arrived nine minutes later.

The couple in the plane was airlifted to a Dallas hospital. Investigators said the victims had serious injuries, including burns.

The names of the people aboard the plane have not been released.
