Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a call for a structure fire at a row of condominiums in the 7300 block of Inwood Road at 8:49 p.m. and found fire coming from the roof.

After extinguishing the fire, firefighters found two dogs inside. Authorities said they pulled at least one dog out and tried to resucitate it, but both dogs died.

No one was home when the fire began.

The neighbors who called 911 told firefighters they were looking out their window and saw lightning strike the roof of the condo and then smoke coming from the roof. Investigators said that and the evidence pointed to a lightning strike being the official cause of the fire.
