2 Ailing Harbor Seals Rescued in California Make Texas Debut

Two harbor seals rescued in California but too sick or hurt to be returned to the wild have a new home at a nature-friendly exhibit in Texas.

The seals named Tomato and Ravioli made their public debut this week at Moody Gardens in Galveston. The 1-year-old seals, in the North Pacific Exhibit in the Aquarium Pyramid, can also be seen via webcam.

Moody Gardens, in a statement Thursday , said the seals were rescued separately last year and cared for by the Northcoast Marine Mammal Center in Crescent City, California. Tomato and Ravioli were transported to Moody Gardens earlier this year.

Officials believe Tomato was attacked by a dog and he was left blind in one eye. Ravioli has neurologic and balance problems from an ear-related disorder. She's also had seizures.
