16 Arrested in Texas Drug Ring Investigation

Federal prosecutors say 16 people have been arrested in the investigation of an East Texas drug trafficking ring with ties to Mexico.

The arrests that began Tuesday involve defendants from Tyler, Longview, Houston, Dallas and Irving. An indictment returned last month charges the suspects with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana.

Officers from several law-enforcement agencies have seized drugs, weapons, vehicles, property and more than $158,000 since the investigation began in 2012.

The defendants face up to life in prison if convicted.
