14 Indicted On Gambling Charges

Executives, employees of Dallas-based Aces Wired indicted

A Nueces County grand jury indicted 14 people Friday on illegal gambling charges related to a gambling parlor in Corpus Christi.

All 14 are executives or employees with Dallas-based Aces Wired, Inc., according to a statement from the Texas Attorney General's Office.

During a raid in May of Aces Amusement Center No. 5, authorities confiscated 90 gambling machines known as "8-liners" and $175,000 in cash and back account assets, the release said.

Authorities shut down Aces Wired locations in Dallas, Fort Worth, Corpus Christi, San Antonio and Copperas Cove in May.

The defendants from around the state face charges of conducting an illegal gambling operation, engaging in organized criminal activity and tampering with evidence.

In a statement issued by the company Friday, CEO Kenneth Griffith, who was among those indicted, said all those indicted would be cleared.

"The state's investigation fails to understand how our electronic game -- Amusement With Prize (AWP) -- technology fully complies with state law by rewarding players with prize points (representations of value) that can only be redeemed for noncash merchandise prizes," Griffith said.
