According to police, the crash happened at the Yello Belly Drag Strip at about 11:20 p.m. Thursday when the driver of a red Ford Mustang, 40-year-old Aki Gatson, lost control of his car and crashed into a Mercury Cougar being driven by 23-year-old Blake Williams.

After the collision, Williams slammed the Cougar into a concrete wall and was ejected from the vehicle. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Gatson, who was injured in the crash, was transported to Methodist Medical Center in Dallas in stable condition. His current condition is not known.

Officials with the Dallas County Sheriff's Office said both Gatson and Williams were registered to race at the track and that the track holds permits for the races.

While the investigation is ongoing, the sheriff's department does not anticipate filing any charges in the crash.
