1 Killed, 2 Hurt in Helicopter Crash in Sam Houston National Forest

Authorities say one person has been killed following a helicopter crash in a national forest north of Houston.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says the helicopter crashed Wednesday afternoon in an area of the Sam Houston National Forest in Montgomery County.

DPS said two other individuals were injured in the crash and taken to a hospital in nearby Conroe in stable condition.

The names of all the individuals in the helicopter were not immediately released and the cause of the crash is not known.

KPRC-TV in Houston reported the helicopter, a Eurocopter AS350, was contracted by the United States Forest Service to help with two controlled burns scheduled in the forest for Wednesday.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.

The crash site is located about 70 miles north of Houston.
