Young failed to yield and hit three to four vehicles at the intersection of Main Street and E. Exchange Avenue, police said, killing a female driver identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner as 58-year-old Guadencia Meza, of Fort Worth.

"As a police department, that's about the worst situation we could have right now," said Sgt. Chris Britt.

Two witnesses said the pickup was speeding around 100 mph south on Main Street and was being pursued by three marked patrol cars.

It's unclear if Meza was stopped at the intersection or was driving through at the time of the crash.

Young being pursued was driving a stolen white pickup, police said. He went to the hospital along with two women passengers with minor injuries. All of the survivors are expected to be OK.

Police said they expect the 26-year-old Young to be in the hospital for a few days before he is booked into jail. He will be charged with evading arrest detention causing death and theft of property, $2,500-$30,000 auto.

Police said they would investigate to see if Young will be charged with Meza's death. He has prior burglary charges on his record.

Additionally, Britt said the department would investigate the chase to see if it followed policy.

The department's overall chase policy already was under review, officials said. The current policy is not available online and a spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for a copy.
