Unpasteurized Milk from Wise County Dairy Recalled

Raw milk from a dairy in Wise County has been recalled after samples tested positive for Brucella bacteria.

Texas Department of State Health Services officials said a person who drank milk from K-Bar Dairy in Paradise was hospitalized for an infection due to a strain of Brucella bacteria.

Milk samples taken from the dairy also tested positive for Brucella, according to authorities.

DSHS officials said they're investigating more illnesses that may be connected to the tainted milk and are advising anyone who consumed milk from the K-Bar Dairy since June 1 to consult with their health care provider.

The dairy is cooperating with the DSHS and is contacting customers.

Brucella can cause symptoms like fever, sweats, headache, muscle and joint pain, loss of appetite and fatigue. Pregnant women, young children, older adults and people with suppressed immune systems are at an increased risk of illness.
