Gang Member Sentenced for Threatening Letters

A white supremacist has been sentenced to nearly 5 years in prison for mailing threatening letters to state judges and prosecutors.

Federal authorities say 28-year-old Jesse Brister of Conroe was sentenced Friday. He pleaded guilty in September to mailing threatening communications.

Brister, a member of the Aryan Brotherhood of Texas, is already in custody on an unrelated matter.

Brister demanded in the letters that Aryan Brotherhood members be released from prison or the gang would target law enforcement officials.

The letters were scrutinized by investigators because they were mailed shortly after Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife were fatally shot in March at their home southeast of Dallas. A former justice of the peace and his ex-wife are being held in the deaths. Brister had no role in the killings.
