Vandals Take Spin Through Plano Park

Vandals are cutting new paths through parks in Plano.

A few weeks ago vandals drove onto the field at Hoblitzelle Park, tearing doughnuts into the grass.

"The league had to cancel games because they had folk out here when the rain came and the were messing up the fields," said Randy Johnson, coach of the Titans, a kids recreational football league.

Parent Liz Harmon said the park is one of the prettiest places in Plano.

"This is the only field they're allowed to practice on with lighting," parent Sarah Anderson said.

The damage put a bit of a snag into the kids' season.

"It delayed our season, so we may have some kids missing because of holidays," Johnson said.

The field looks a little better now, but the city of Plano said a number of its parks have been vandalized.

"I think that's terrible," Harmon said. "I mean the kids love it, and they spend a lot of money to get the fields ready and conditioned for the kids to play, and then it comes game day, and it's ruined. The kids get bummed, and they can't play."

Parents, coaches and players are hoping they can get through the rest of their season with their field in one piece.

The city said if people who see anyone driving on the grass at any of their parks should call Plano police immediately.
